What makes the Mid-South Youth Orchestra unique?
The Mid-South Youth Orchestra is an opportunity to pursue musical excellence, personal character, and discipline in the context of a Christian education.

Who may participate?
The impetus for forming the orchestra came from observing the need for homeschoolers to have a place to learn and perform music in the context of a Christian education. ALL student musicians who are seeking a place to pursue musical excellence in the context of a Christian education are enthusiastically welcomed and encouraged to participate.

What values are taught and encouraged?
• Christian character
• Personal discipline
• Mutual respect and encouragement
• Musical excellence

What kinds of music do you play?
We perform serious classical, light classical, sacred, seasonal, and patriotic works that are consistent with the organization's Christian foundation.

What instruments are needed?
All orchestra instruments (strings, winds and percussion) are needed, especially strings. These include violin, viola, cello, string bass, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, french horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba, and percussion. Other instruments may also be needed occasionally such as harp and piano. Parents of all interested instrumentalists should feel free to email their contact information.

When will the orchestra meet?
The orchestra will begin meeting weekly at the beginning of the 2006-2007 school year.

What kinds of activities fulfill the group's mission?
• Productive and disciplined rehearsals that address Christian character and musical integrity.
• Seminars by conservative Christian speakers on art, music, and the church.
• Opportunities for discussion on topics of interest to musicians such as dealing with stage fright, pursuing musical excellence with a godly attitude, and music's role in the church and society.
• Performing at places of need such as retirement homes, children's homes, etc.
• Performing in service to the area's Christian community such as homeschool events and in support of other Christian ministries.

Future seminars and short-term classes may include offerings in music theory, music history, private and small group instrumental lessons, and music technology.
