What is a Bible church?
The Bible Church movement began as a logical
response to the declining emphasis on teaching the great truths of the Bible
in many mainline denominational churches. Men and women in these churches saw
as a solution the organization of independent local churches where Bible-centered
teaching could be emphasized.
Open Door Bible Church was founded -- and is based -- on the
premise that man can only come to tentative conclusions about God apart from
what God has said to man in the Bible. This conviction makes Open Door Bible
Church a church that is centered around the study of the Scriptures and the
message which they have for people everywhere. The church is not affiliated
with any denomination, but trans-denominational in that its members and friends
are from many different church backgrounds.
What We Believe
- We Believe that the Bible is the Word of God, supernaturally inspired so that
it is inerrant in the original manuscripts and has been preserved by God, so
that it is the divinely authoritative standard for every age and every life.
- We Believe that the Godhead exists eternally in three persons -- Father,
Son, and Holy Spirit -- and that these three are one God.
- We Believe in God as absolute and sole creator of the universe, and
that creation was by divine fiat.
- We Believe that God, by His sovereign choice and out of love for men,
sent Christ into the world to save sinners.
- We Believe that Jesus Christ in the flesh was both God and man, that He
was born of a virgin and that He lived a sinless life in which He taught
and did mighty works and wonders and signs exactly as revealed in the four
Gospels, He was crucified, died as a penalty for our sins, and was raised
from the dead bodily on the third day. later He ascended to the Father's
right hand where He is Head of the Church and intercedes for believers,
and from whence He is coming again personally, bodily, visibly to this
earth to set up His millennial kingdom.
- We Believe that since in His death, by His shed blood, the Lord Jesus
Christ made a perfect atonement for sin , redeeming us from the curse of
the Law by becoming a curse for us -- men are saved, justified, on the simple
and single ground of the shed blood of Christ and faith in Him who shed that
blood.
- We Believe that such salvation with its forgiveness of sins, its impartation
of a new nature, and its hope of eternal life, is entirely apart from good
works, baptism, church membership -- or man's effort -- and is pure grace.
- We
Believe that a true believer is eternally secure, that he cannot lose his
salvation, but that sin may interrupt the joy of his fellowship with God
and bring the loving discipline of his heavenly Father.
- We Believe that
it is the goal of every Christian to grow in spiritual maturity through
obedience to the Word of God and the indwelling Holy Spirit.
- We Believe that
the Holy Spirit is a person, is God, and possesses all the divine attributes.
He indwells all believers, baptizes and seals all believers at the moment
of their salvation, and fills them in response to confession of sin and
yieldedness.
Our Commitments
In a day when so few are committed to
anything of lasting value, we believe that only two things will stand the
test of time -- God's Word and people. The commitment of our lives is to invest
in both of these.
- To the word of God...
We preach and teach the Bible without apology or reservation. It is God's loving
message of new life to an otherwise lost and dying world.
- To the family of God...
We like to think of the local church as a family. Our goal is to face the
challenges and trials, the joys and sorrows of life together. Open Door
is small enough to know you and large enough to meet your needs.
- To your family...
We believe the family is God's primary institution of learning and growth.
The church is to support and supplement the ministry of the home. Strong
marriages are important to us. Providing an atmosphere of growth for children
is a priority.
- To world missions...
We believe in a strong and active missions program supported by the congregation's
prayers, encouragement, and finances. Some thirty different families and
organizations are currently ministering around the world as a part of our
missions outreach. Our missions program is an extension of (not a substitute
for) our own ministry to the local community.
Statement Of Purpose
We are a body of believers united by our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, our
commitment to sound biblical teaching, evangelism, discipleship, worship, and
our devotion to God. We serve to share Christ's love, influencing our world
for God's glory.
