Club No Other Name is our weekly outreach to the students at Snowden School. It meets each Thursday after school, and a growing number of kids are coming. Eric McCreight is hosting the 1st Annual Dessert for the Memphis Area Youth Preservation Society, designed to inform people of the work taking place in Memphis. Join him at First Baptist Church, 200 East Parkway N. tomorrow evening, 6-8PM.
 
Child Evangelism Fellowship of Memphis is sponsoring a one-day Kids’ Film Fest on Saturday, January 22, 2005. They will feature the film The Story of Jesus for Children. Multiple showings are scheduled for 11:00AM, 12:45PM, and 2:30PM at the Malco Ridgeway Four (5853 Ridgeway Center Parkway near the Hilton Hotel at I-240 and Poplar). This is a free event, presenting children (ages 5-14) and families with the Good News of Jesus Christ.
 
The Youth Group will be attending the Josh McDowell Acquire the Fire Conference in Nashville in February. If you would like to contribute toward scholarships, mark your gift: “Youth Conference.”
 
Our church family extends heartfelt sympathy to the Leonard family on the death of Jim’s brother, G. L. Leonard. Anne’s address is: 805 N. Park Ave.; Brownsville, TN 38012.

The Annual Walk For Life will be held on Saturday this year. The group will meet at Central High School’s auditorium at 1:30PM, and walk together to Planned Parenthood. January 23 is Sanctity of Human Life Sunday.
 
Child Evangelism Fellowship of Memphis is sponsoring a one-day Kids’ Film Fest this Saturday featuring the film The Story of Jesus for Children. Multiple showings are scheduled for 11:00AM, 12:45PM, and 2:30PM at the Malco Ridgeway Four (5853 Ridgeway Center Parkway near the Hilton Hotel at I-240 and Poplar). This is a free event, presenting children (ages 5-14) and families with the Good News of Jesus Christ.
 
Worldview Weekend is coming to Briarcrest Christian School on March 11 & 12. The cost for adults is $45 and for students is $35. Featured speakers include Irwin Lutzer, David Noebel, Mark Cahill, and Kerby Anderson. If you are interested in attending, talk with Pastor Gary.
 
Our Annual Congregational Meeting is next Sunday evening, January 23. There will be a covered-dish dinner beginning at 6PM, and the meeting will convene immediately following. Members should make every effort to attend. Others are welcome to come as observers.

Acquire The Fire is a huge conference for youth held in Nashville. Our Youth Group will be going again this year, February 18-19. Total cost per student is $60. Eva Rorex is again providing free accommodations at her condominium’s clubhouse. If you would like to provide funds for a scholarship, mark your gift “Youth Conference.”
 
Dr. George Murray, President of Columbia International University, is the speaker for this year’s Carter Biblical Lectureship. Hear him at 10:00AM, Monday, February 14, and Tuesday, February 15, at 10:30AM, at Crichton College, and at 7PM both nights at First Evangelical Church.
 
We are planning a church-wide Day of Prayer for Sunday, February 27. The morning service will focus on prayer. A packet of materials will be available to all who want to find a quiet place in our buildings to spend the afternoon with God. Later, we will gather for praise and sharing. Carolyn Ann Williamson, mother of Denise Flores and Eddie Williamson, passed away last month. There will be a memorial service here at the church this Thursday at 11AM.

Memphis Sidewalk Counseling provides quiet, compassionate help for people in crisis situations. A training session will be held next Saturday, 8:15-11:15AM, at Bellevue Baptist Church, Room F241. Volunteers spend one Saturday morning or weekday afternoon each month in front of one of three abortion clinics in our city.
 
Our church family extends heartfelt sympathy to the Dee family. Steve’s father went to be with the Lord on February 12. The funeral is tomorrow in Ohio.

Our Take It to Heart Scripture Memory Challenge is Proverbs 3:1-13. Continue to work on memorizing these verses.

AWANA will be back from spring break this Wednesday night. We congratulate Stephanie LaVoice, named Truth ‘N Training Clubber of the Month for February.
 
The Open Door Cookbook will bring together the best recipes imaginable. If you’ve never tasted Virginia White’s Cashew Chicken or Lucy Coody’s Three-Cheese Macaroni, if you’ve wondered how to make one of Mary Spence’s Apple Cakes or Ann Duffy’s Chicken Casseroles, you will want this book! If you have favorite recipes of your own or if you have a favorite from a former Open Door family member, submit it to obdc@shelbyweb.com, drop it off at the church office, or give it to Teresa Baker.
 
Fear this! The Open Door Knobs will field a softball team this spring. If you want to play but have not signed up yet, let us know soon. We look forward to another great season.
 
Easter Sunday morning, we will again meet at 7AM for a “Sunrise Service.” Afterwards, we will enjoy breakfast together before going to our Bible Study Hour classes at 9:30AM. Come celebrate the resurrection of our Savior on this special day, March 27. The Sunrise Service will replace our evening service on Easter Sunday.
 
Congratulations to Ray Lewis, winner of the First Annual Open Door Men’s Chili Cook Off! Ray took home the prestigious “Nailed It!” Trophy.

Betty Kelso passed into the Lord’s presence on Saturday, March 12, at the age of 87. Her husband was pastor of Open Door from 1973 through 1982.
Sometimes people just notice when someone does so much for so many others. The flowers this morning were provided in honor of Shirley James with much love from Carol Cooper and family.

Next Sunday is Easter. We shall again meet at 7AM for a “Sunrise Service.” Afterwards, we will enjoy breakfast together before going to our Bible Study Hour classes at 9:30AM. Do you know someone who needs to meet the Christ of Easter? Copies of the book Jesus: Who Is this Man Who Says He’s God? are available at no cost. You must simply fill out a form promising to place the book into your friend’s hands between now and March 27. We will pray for God to work!
 
Open Door is now in stage 2 of implementing our childcare safety policy. There will be a mandatory meeting of all adults who in any way help, teach, or transport children and youth of our church on Saturday, April 30, 9am-noon. The meeting will cover child abuse prevention and outline our policies. Session materials will be taken from AWANA’s highly acclaimed curriculum. See Pastor Phil if you have any questions.
 
The West Virginia Mission Trip is generating a good response. If you want to take part, sign up right away. Travel to Kermit, WV, July 16-23, and build into the lives of Appalachian children through Vacation Bible School. Work alongside our missionaries, William and Grace Reeves, and learn about their ministry of 30 years. See Pastor Phil for an application.

The Covenant Players are coming back to Open Door for a special service next Sunday night! Join us at Café Open Door. A light supper will be served at 5PM, and the Covenant Players will provide their powerful, creative dramas that always present biblical truth in a fresh way at 6PM. The Open Door Knobs Softball Team will start their next season on May 5. Plan to come out on Thursday nights to Buckhead Creek, 8300 Highway 70, and cheer your team on to victory. Ladies: You are invited to a baby shower for Sarah (Flores) Morales on Saturday, May 28, 2PM. The event will take place in Wilson Hall.
 
Club No Other Name will have its last meeting of the school year this Thursday afternoon. An outreach ministry to students at Snowden School, the club has attracted as many as 50 children. They have experienced and heard about the love of Christ, while having a great time together.
 
The Youth Group is going to Libertyland on June 4. The cost is $13. Meet at the church at 11AM. See Pastor Phil for more information.
