Open Door has a long history of strong support for local and international mission activities. We believe that the local church plays a vital role in the efforts of reaching people for Christ anywhere and everywhere. This involvement includes support of foreign missionaries, involvement with executive boards of mission organizations, active involvement in local missions, etc.

In some ways missions has changed dramatically over the last few decades. Although still seen, it is less common for missionaries to encounter isolated tribes of poeple who've never seen a "westerner". Access to remote areas is less likely limited only to donkey or plane. Missionaries now commonly use e-mail to communicate with supporters. Laptop computers are now pretty standard issue. Although there is much work to be done, there has been significant progress in terms of acces to the Bible as well as to other Christians. In a lot of ways the world seems much smaller. What has NOT changed is that individuals still need to know about the salvation offered chrough Christ Jesus. Neither has our mandate changed to communicate the gospel (Matthew 28:18-20). Make no mistake, this world has never been in greater need of our Savior than today. Open Door Bible Church supports missionaries because we can, because we, as a local church body, play an important role in not only ministering to those who are lost, but also ministering to those trying to reach the lost (i.e. the missionaries). God's message wasn't limited to folks who live in Memphis. Neither was it limited to those who are literate. God's message was and is for all of us (John 3:16).
